Shakti teams aim to protect women in trouble: DGP
Srikakulam: Shakti teams were launched in the state with an aim to protect women and girls in trouble, said Director General of Police (DGP), R P Thakur. He inaugurated Shakti teams formally at District Police Office (DPO) here on Thursday. Addressing a meeting on the occasion, he said that AP police has been giving more priority to protect women and girls.
Shakti teams are formed with women police staff like sub-inspector, assistant sub-inspector, head constable, police constable etc. Bikes are also provided to these teams to reach the spot quickly.Women and girls can directly contact Shakti teams to solve their problems and the teams will reach the spots quickly and solve the issue. We are maintaining strict vigil at work places, public places and other locations to protect modesty of women and girls, DGP said.
Later, the DGP planted saplings at DPO premises and asked the police officers to protect environment also by planting saplings whenever and wherever possible. District Collector J Nivas, Superintendent of Police Navdeep Singh Grewal and Joint Collector KVN Chakradhara Babu also attended and planted saplings at DPO.
