SEC Ramesh Kumar meets governor over postponement of local body elections
The State Election Commissioner Ramesh Kumar on Monday met Governor Biswabhushan Harichandan at Raj Bhavan in Amaravati. He explained to the governor about the reasons that compelled for the postponement of the election of local bodies. Earlier on Sunday, Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy has already complained to the governor about the SEC's decision of postponement of local body elections. It is reported that the Governor would discuss with SEC about the objections raised by the Chief Minister on the election postponement.
The Andhra Pradesh State Election Commissioner on Sunday made a sensational decision to postpone the elections of local bodies for six weeks. The decision was made in the wake of the Corona outbreak. On the other hand, the decision didn't go well with Chief Minister Jagan who cane hard at state election commissioner Ramesh Kumar levelling harsh allegations and complained to the Governor.
While the chief secretary of Andhra Pradesh Nilam Sawhney wrote to state election commission urging to revoke the decision of postponement of elections for local bodies and asked to follow the earlier schedule to complete the election process on time. She also emphasized on the preventive measures being taken to curtail coronavirus in the state stating it would not have any impact on the elections.
