Rajamahendravaram: Girls demand capital punishment to Disha accused

Rajamahendravaram: Students of Rajamahendri Junior, Degree and Post-graduate College for Women took out a rally from Devi Chowk to Gokavaram bus station and formed a human chain on Tuesday, protesting the heinous rape and murder of Disha in Hyderabad recently.

They participated in the rally exhibiting placards and raised slogans demanding that the government give capital punishment to the four accused in the incident. The students also underlined the need to provide proper protection to women.

Participating in the protest programme, college correspondent TK Visweswara Reddy has said society should feel ashamed over Disha's incident. It is the time for both state and central governments to amend the existing laws to give capital punishment to the persons involved in the atrocities on women.

The entire country is demanding hanging of the culprits immediately without prolonging the case in the guise of enquiries, he averred. Principal T Satya Soundarya said day-by-day atrocities on women were increasing in society and a change should come from men to treat women as their family members.

She said that the punishment for the four accused in this case should be a lesson to others and it should create terror among the persons who sail with this type of thoughts. NSS Programme Officer Lakshmi Praveena, MKS Prasad, Faculty Members Rajani, D Swathi, Kameswari, Sridevi, Gouri Kumari and non-teaching staff participated in the programme.
