MLC urges people to give boost to handlooms in Eluru

Eluru: MLC Ramu Surya Rao has appealed to the people to wear handloom fabrics so that handloom workers can get livelihood. He inaugurated a handloom exhibition organised by Bhavanarushi Cheneta Hastakalala Karmika Sangham here on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the MLC said that people used to wear the handloom fabrics. However, after fashion technology came into existence, the position of handlooms worsened. Scores of handloom workers depend on the sector lost their livelihood with the advent of technology.

They need to be encouraged by switching over to handloom fabrics. The handloom fabrics had demand all over the world and Telugu people should also wear handloom fabrics to give a boost to the sector and provide livelihood to the workers dependent on the sector, he said. The exhibition will be open till October 25 and people should avail by shopping for the Diwali festival, he appealed.
