JCI conducts health awareness programme for adolescents in Visakhapatnam
Visakhapatnam: It was not a regular chalk and board classroom interaction with the students, but more than a seminar where children could learn life lessons. Here, the lessons were about decision-making and improved focus on goals.
Pediatrician Radhakrishna and psychologist Satish Valiveti introduced new chapters to the students. Around 1,500 students from various schools thronged at Gurajada Kalakshetram on Tuesday to listen to the 'Largest adolescents health awareness lesson', a feat attempted by Junior Chamber International (JCI) to find a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.
The students were taught to build self-confidence and techniques for scoring marks during examinations and many more topics. Satish Valiveti displayed his number on projector and asked every student to text him so that he could motivate them over Whatsapp.
Participants at the auditorium felt the platform was useful for them to pick up skills. R Rishikesh, from Class X, St. Ann's High School, said "I am glad that my classmates and I were part of this session and I got to learn about how to be strong and improve decision making skills.'' Sheetal Madan, President of JCI throws light on importance of adolescence programme.
She adds, "In earlier days, we used to have joint families, we had grandparents who used to tell us mythological stories and there were too many elders around who could guide.
Sadly, with nuclear families on the rise, children are confined to using gadgets which cannot give moral education. Moreover, due to academic pressure school and colleges are unable to inculcate social values." The same reason made JCI members to come up with the concept of Guinness World Record attempt.
