Implementation of plastic ban ignored in Kurnool district

Kurnool: Almost all hotels, commercial establishments, retail and general grocery shops are frequently using the plastic bags to parcel without implementing ban on usage of plastic. Both central and state governments have passed orders to ensure ban the usage of plastic.

State Level Committee of National Green Tribunal Chairman Justice B Seshasayana Reddy during his recent visit to Kurnool on October 11had also ordered the officials to initiate steps for complete ban of plastic usage.

However, no concrete steps were taken by the officials to ban the plastic usage. In Adoni Municipality, the use of plastic carry bags is seen in almost all hotels. The tea stalls and meals hotels on the other side of the road near the Municipal office are seen using plastic bags. The irony is that the hottest tea is being parceled in the plastic pouches. These plastic pouches are less than 50 microns which are strictly banned by the governments.

The curries, dal, sambar and other food items, in hot state, are being parceled in plastic pouches. A hotel proprietor said to The Hans India that 90 percent of hoteliers in Adoni are using the carry bags.

There were no proper response from Municipal officials in Adoni with regard to implementation of plastic ban. The Nandyal Municipal Commissioner S Venkata Krishna said, ``Presently we are conducting awareness programmes. However, we will take severe action after November 15.'' Similar situation is prevailing in Kurnool city also.
