Use of plastic bags, covers banned in Chittoor

Chittoor: Municipal Commissioner C Obulesh said that as per the directions of District Collector Dr N Bharath Guptha, the use of carry plastic bags is prohibited in city limits. Despite initiating strict measures for not using plastic covers or bags, some consumers are e still entertaining plastic carry bags at vegetable and fish markets, he said.

Addressing a review meeting of sanitary inspectors and public health officials on Thursday at Municipal Corporation, the use of plastic bags and covers will be strictly banned at all business establishment and provision shops. With the active involvement of several NGOs, Employees Associations and Mahila mandals, number of awareness camps have been held in the city during the last six months, he further said.

He instructed the sanitary inspectors to conduct surprise raids on the commercial shops and seize the plastic covers if any and impose penalties. Under Swatchha Bharat Programme, steps should be taken to collect dry waste and wet waste separately from each house every day . Municipal Health Officer Vinod Kumar, Sanitory Inspector Chinnaih and others were present .
