Kakinada: Andhra Pradesh Weavers' United Front (APWUF) secretary Tuthika Srinivasa Viswanath appealed to Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy to help the weavers by announcing welfare measures for them.

East Godavari Weavers United Front activists handed over a letter of demand to Handloom and Textiles Department Assistant Director YS Kripavaram here on Monday.

Viswanath alleged that the welfare of the handloom workers was neglected by the rulers, irrespective of their political affiliations. If the same situation persists, there will be no future for handloom sector, he lamented.

The front vice-president Shriram Laxman Prasad demanded every handloom worker who crossed 50 years of age should be given pension.
