Flood water recedes in Vamsadhara, Nagavali

Srikakulam: Flood water level receded in Vamsadhara and Nagavali rivers in the district on Friday. Inflow and outflow at Gotta Barrage on Vamsadhara river 29,516 cusecs and at Thotapalli Reservoir in Nagavali river inflows record at 15,257 cusecs and outflow 7,201 cusecs.

Several villages in Bhamini, Kotturu, Hiramandal, L N Peta, Jalumuru, Amudalavalasa, Narasannapeta, Srikakulam rural and Gara mandals were affected due to floods in Vamsadhara.

The impact was more on villages in Bhamini, Kotturu, Hiramandal, L N Peta, Jalumuru mandals. There were no rains in the catchment areas of Nagavali and Vamsadhara rivers in Odisha and in Srikakulam on Friday.

Road networks slowly restored at Singidi, Kosali, Kesara, Penugotivada, Mathala, Nivagam, Anguru, Somarajapuram, Vasapa, Sirusuvada, Kuntibhadhra and other villages in Bhamini and Kotturu mandals by Friday evening.

'Paddy nurseries were inundated in an extent of 15,000 acres in 10 mandals due to Vamsadhara floods,'' Joint Director for Agriculture K Ch Appala Swamy explained. Low level rains will be helpful in several mandals for acceleration of kharif works.
