18 Lakh cusecs of flood water discharged from Vamsadhara river
Srikakulam: Flood level crossed more than one lakh cusecs in 12 occasions from Vamsadhara river in a span of 38 years from 1980 to 2018. According to Vamsadhara river project officials, flood water level crossed 4,01,870 cusecs at Gotta barrage in Vamsadhara river in Hiramandal. Which is record level flood water in Vamsadhara river for the first time. In 1990 flood water level crossed 1,20,410 cusecs in 1992 flood water level reached to 1,30,482 cusecs in the Vamsadhara river at Gotta barrage.
In 1994 flood level crossed more than 1,02,704 cusecs. In the year 2003 flood water level reached to 1,06,956 cusecs. In the year 2005 water level crossed to 1,15,896 cusecs in the river at Gotta barrage. In 2006 flood level crossed to 1,37,841 cusecs in the river. In 2007 water level touched to 1,65,026 cusecs in the Gotta barrage. In the year 2008 water level crossed more than 1,43,814 cusecs in the river.
In 2013 flood water level reported as one lakh cusecs in the river. In the year 2014 flood level crossed more than 1,06,243 cusecs. Again in 2018 flood water level crossed more than 1,71,371 cusecs. Which is record level flood water level in the river from Gotta barrage. Total more than 18 lakh cusecs of flood water discharged from Vamsadhara river at Gotta barrage in 12 occasions. The total discharged water merged in the Bay of Bengal uselessly. If the on going reservoir at Hiramandal with a storage capacity of 19.5 tmc ft completed water will be useful to irrigate farm fields.
