Cops rescue 90 child labourers in Kakinada

Kakinada: The police identified 90 child labourers under MUSKAN programme, announced Kakinada DSP K Kumar. Addressing the media here on Friday, he said these child labourers and their parents will be counselled by Child Welfare Board.

Following instructions of Director General of Police Gowtham Sawang, the Circle Inspectors and Sub-Inspectors of various police stations under Kakinada DSP limits searched from 4 am to 4 pm and identified 90 child labourers below the age of 18.

Out of which 15 boys are under 14 years. He said that cases were booked against the owners who employed them. The child labourers would be produced before Child Welfare Board. The Board will decide on the child labourers' education ie, whether they should be joined in residential schools, day schools and others as per the willing of their parents.

He made it clear that below 14 years of age children should not be sent to any work and they should be enrolled in educational institutions. He said that such special drives will be held in future also under the programme.
