Books offer solace in stress-laden life: Dronamraju Srinviasa Rao
Visakhapatnam: In a stress-laden life, books continue to offer solace to people, VMRDA Chairman Dronamraju Srinviasa Rao has said. Inaugurating the 'Visakha Pusthaka Mahotsavam,' a 24-day book exhibition organised by Visalandhra Book House at Turner's Choultry on Friday, the Chairman said despite the digital age, books play an imperative role in spreading the knowledge and absorbing the content better.
He urged youngsters to know about history and draw inspiration from successful leaders by reading about them. Further, he told them to inculcate the habit of reading and promote its benefits among their friends.
After browsing through the books, Head of the Department of Telugu, AVN College Ayyagari Sitaratnam stated that reading offers a much-required break from daily grind. "Nothing replaces the joy of flipping through the pages of a book before calling it a day," she said. Being a voracious reader herself, she mentioned that it aids in sharing the joy of reading with her students as well.
Highlighting the need to organise such book fairs, director of Avanthi Group of Educational Institutions Chandu Subba Rao and CPI State assistant secretary J V Satyanarayana Murthy briefed on the role of books in the digital world.
Various genres of books in Telugu and English form a part of the 20th edition of the book fair. "At present, we have 20,000 books at the venue. More number of books will be added to the shelves in the coming days," informed P A Raju, manager of the book house.
Book lovers can also avail a 10 per cent of discount on the purchase of books at the fair which will remain open till November 24 from 10:30 am to 8:30 pm at the venue.
