Action plan to tackle summer water needs

Achanta: West Godavari District Collector Praveen Kumar directed the officials to prepare action plan and execute it properly to meet drinking and irrigation needs of people during summer. He reviewed drinking water and irrigation problems with officials of irrigation and agriculture officials here on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Collector asked the officials to identify places where people have been facing drinking water shortage. Even in outskirts and remote areas, water problem should be effectively tackled by supplying water through tankers, he said.

The Collector ordered the officials to prepare a summer action plan to overcome problem of drinking water and irrigation. Water should be diverted from affluent areas to places where there is acute shortage. The officials should have coordination with the farming community to identify areas with shortage for water.

The Collector personally visited several areas from where the canal water supplied for irrigating lands. He made some suggestions to the officials on the spot. He also inspected lift irrigation works in Balavaripalem and interacted with the farmers. Later, he instructed the officials on the action to be taken to solve farmers' problems.

The Collector also asked the officials to arrange drinking water at public places and distribute drinking water. He directed the health officials to keep ORS packets in sufficient quantities at hospitals, sub-centres and other areas for supply among the needy.
