30 kg gold, 1.5 cr cash seized in Eluru
Eluru: The West Godavari police have seized Rs 10.04 crore worth gold and ornaments during checks at various places in the wake of elections to Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.
Unaccounted gold and ornaments weighing 30.134 kg was seized during checks. In addition to the gold, the police also seized Rs 1.5 crore in cash, 1761 liquor bottles, 33 litres of country-made liquor and 206 kg of black jaggery used in its preparation.
This was disclosed by Superintendent of Police M Raviprakash at a video conference conducted by DGP RP Thakur on Friday.
The DGP enquired with all district SPs and Commissioners about measures taken for the conduct of elections in their respective districts.
Eluru Range DIG Dr Trivikrama Varma, DSP Pydeswara Rao and other officials of police department attended the video conference.
Briefing the DGP about various measures taken in the district, the SP said that so far the police booked bind over cases against 2007 persons. While 25 weapons were seized for want of license, another 366 licensed weapons were also seized.
The police have prepared plan to set up 11 check-posts in inter-state and inter-district border areas and moving ahead with the plan.
An action plan has also been evolved to act in coordination with paramilitary forces at key places for security measures.
The police forces have been prepared to act in tune with Election Commission directives, he added.
