'Workers must be aware of their rights'
Workers in the unorganised sector are deprived of their due, the All India Universities Employees Confederation (AIUEC) Vice-President Dr Pulla Srinivas said.
Warangal: Workers in the unorganised sector are deprived of their due, the All India Universities Employees Confederation (AIUEC) Vice-President Dr Pulla Srinivas said.
Speaking at a meeting that focused on workers of unorganised sector on the Kakatiya University campus here on Tuesday, he said that majority of the workers associated with the unorganised sector does not have stable employment.
As a result, they could not derive the full benefits of their employment, he added.
"The workers who are subject to exploitation receive poor wages much below than that of formal sector" Dr Srinivas said. Due to lack of knowledge about the welfare provisions such as health insurance, general insurance and a pension scheme available to them, the workers are languishing in penury, he added.
He stressed the need for creating awareness about the protective legislations among the working class. He heaped praise on Warangal West MLA D Vinay Bhaskar for organising awareness programmes to enlighten the workers about their rights. The workers who fought for their rights should also be aware of their duties as well, Dr Srinivas said.
The meeting was presided over by TKTU president Mettu Ravi. Electricity employee union leader Johnson, TRS Karmika Vibhagam state working president Devender Reddy, M S Narayana, Venkateshwar and SDLCE press and media incharge Dr Sangala Ephraim Raj were among others present.
