Warangal: In a joint operation, the CCS and Matwada police on Monday arrested two thieves and recovered Rs 50.40 lakh from them.

The accused were identified as Abdul Wahid Khan and Asim Khan alias Sonu and Cheena of Sohagpur tahsil in Hoshangabad district of Madhya Pradesh. The other accused Arshad Khan who also belongs to the same town is at large.

Disclosing the details, the Commissioner of Police V Ravinder said that a trader Yakoob who had migrated from Madhya Pradesh established Gujarat Cloth Showroom in the city, a few years ago. He recruited Wahid as a salesman in his store.

Yakoob allowed Wahid to stay at his residence believing the workmanship and loyalty shown by the latter. Wahid who noticed his employer concealing cash in a trunk box at his residence over a period of time hatched a plan to steal it with the help of his friend Asim Khan who resides in Sohagpur.

Against this backdrop, Yakoob went to Bengaluru on a business trip on November 11. At the behest of Wahid, Asim landed in Warangal on November 15 and chalked out a plan to rob the money. Later, the duo stole Rs 63 lakh by breaking open the trunk box. After sharing a part of money, Asim left for his native place while Wahid stayed back as if he has nothing to do with the theft. Wahid who hired a rented house in Yellam Bazar clandestinely stored the cash in it.

After returning from Bengaluru, Yakoob who noticed the theft lodged a complaint with the Matwada police. Suspecting Wahid's hand in the theft, the CCS police kept a vigil on Wahid and other suspects besides investigating the case with the help of CCTV camera footage available in the colony.

On Monday, Asim who came back from Sohragpur to get his share in the booty met Wahid at Warangal Jhenda area. The police arrested them and seized Rs 44 lakh hidden in the rented house and another Rs 6 lakh from Asim. The police are yet to arrest Arshad, brother of Asim, as he had some stolen cash with him. The Commissioner heaped praise on the ACP Sarangapani, Crime ACP Babu Rao, CCS Inspector Ramesh Kumar, Sub-inspector BVS Rao, Matwada Inspector Ganesh and SI Ramesh, and others involved in the investigation.
