Warangal: The target of planting 2.21 crore saplings in Warangal Rural district is not far away, if the authorities take up plantation of 7 lakh saplings a day, Collector M Haritha said.

Chairing a review meeting here on Tuesday, she appreciated the district officials for planting 50 lakh saplings so far under the phase-5 of the Haritha Haram this year. Stating that Warangal Rural is well ahead of all other districts in the State in carrying Haritha Haram programme, the Collector expressed hope that officials would continue to work in the same spirit until the target is reached. "The onus is on Sarpanches and Panchayat Secretaries to make the plantation drive a huge success. Those Sarpanches, officials and workers who perform well in the plantation drive would get incentives," Haritha said.

Geesukonda, Sangem, Nekkonda and Parvathagiri mandals have been in the forefront of the green drive, the Collector said, stating that other mandals need to catch up fast. She emphasised the need for regular monitoring of trees to ensure their survival. The officials concerned need to focus on plantation drive to achieve desired results, she said. DRDO Sampath Rao, DFO K Purishotham and DPO Narayana were among others who were present.
