Warangal: The police foiled the TSRTC employees bid to lay siege to the Warangal Urban District Collectorate here on Monday. The police, who converged in large numbers at the Ekashila Park, obstructed the employees' move to lay siege to the Collectorate.
The police were able to restrict the employees within the park, this despite the Congress and CPI leaders support to the RTC staff. Several employees were arrested and shifted to police stations when they tried to cross the barricades put up by the police.
Speaking on the occasion, CPI State working committee member Thakallapally Srinivas Rao criticised the TRS government for not taking initiative to solve the issues raised by the RTC workers, who have been on strike for the last 24 days.
"Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao is more interested on privatising the RTC rather than focusing on solving the issues faced by the corporation. It appears that KCR wants to close the RTC and privatise the road transport services," he said.
It's apparent that the government's negotiations with the employee unions were farce, he added.
The TRS government didn't even set up a new bus station and no new buses were added to the fleet after the formation of the Telangana.
This apart, there are 10,000 vacancies in the RTC that has to be filled, he said, pooh poohing KCR's claims that his government had done justice to the RTC, he said.
CPI district secretary Mekala Ravi alleged that the State government is trying to hoodwink the people by hiding the facts related to RTC especially its income.
TPCC general secretary Namindla Srinivas expressed concern over the fate of the employees. "The situation may lead to a doom for the employees if the government continues to ignore the strike," he said.
The police arrested CPI leaders Karre Bikshapathi, Bussa Ravinder, Gannarapu Ramesh, Kothapalli Chiranjeevi, Naresh Dravid, Ganesh Raj and others who sat on indefinite hunger strike. However, the CPI leaders threatened the government to intensify their agitation if it fails to address the issues raised by the RTC employees.
