Warangal: Desperate times call for desperate measures. Although the 14-hour 'self-quarantine' christened as Janata Curfew on Sunday is one of those meticulous measured moves taken by the government to stall the spread of pandemic Coronavirus entering Stage-3 (community spread), it has seen as a warm up match before the real test begins.
If one goes by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, tougher days are ahead. The purpose of the Janata Curfew is to prepare people mentally that they may witness harsher lockdown measures in the days to come, if necessary, it seems.
This apart, the Janata Curfew is aimed at educating a section of people who still continue to ignore the seriousness of the impending problem arising out of Covid-19. The Janata Curfew also indicated people that time has come for them to embrace a new etiquette such as maintaining social distancing and to restrain oneself from mass gatherings besides adopting hygienic practices.
In a bid to curb the spread of Covid-19, the government already announced holidays for the schools and postponement of SSC and other examinations.
A transformational change is also visible in the administration with the government taking several measures to break the chain of Covid-19 transmission.
Isolation Wards: In addition to the existing one, the administration is turning the senior resident doctors' building which has 24 rooms into Covid-19 isolation ward. It may be mentioned here that MGM Hospital is already having 10-bed isolation ward. As a precautionary measure, the authorities have also got down to turn the students' hostels in Kakatiya Medical College (KMC) into quarantine wards.
This apart, the Railway officials are also setting up isolation wards at Railway polyclinic, diesel loco shed dispensary and community hall in Kazipet with 80 beds.
