Warangal: Mild Tension prevailed on the Kakatiya University (KU) campus on Wednesday when the students led by ABVP staged a protest in front of the Registrar's chambers, demanding the postponement of semester examinations of the undergraduate courses scheduled to be held from November 29. A scuffle ensued with the police when the students tried to barge into the Registrar's chamber. However, the police managed to obstruct them. They resorted to mild lathi charge when the students refused to back off. Several students sustained minor injuries during the lathi charge, it's learnt.
The students found fault with the administration for conducting examinations even though the syllabus was not completed. They said that not even the stipulated number of classes were conducted for the first, third and fifth semester students. ABVP leader Ram Babu said that it's mandatory for the academic section to ensure at least 90 days of classes before conducting the examinations. "The admission process through the Degree Online Services Telangana (DOST) continued till September. Thereafter, Dasara holidays followed. This apart, the government had also declared holidays due to the TSRTC employees' strike. As a result, the students had attended classes for about 45 days," he said, stating that they had already represented the issue to the Registrar a fortnight ago.
Despite repeated appeals to the Registrar for the postponement of the examinations, the authorities had announced examination schedule, he said. He said that they were forced to go on protest as they didn't get any reply from the administration.
He said that while the first semester students have the opportunity to write supplementary examinations, the third and fifth semester students will face detention up on failure and will have to waste an entire academic year under the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS).
