Urbanites to get parks in Warangal

Warangal: In a bid to provide lung space to people craving for it within the urban limits, the district administration has plans to develop an urban park at Rampur under Kazipet mandal. Rajya Sabha member Banda Prakash, Urban District Collector Prashanth Jevan Patil and Chief Conservator of Forest (CCF) MJ Akbar on Monday inspected the site at Rampur proposed for the urban park.

Banda Prakash said that taking a cue from Hyderabad, the administration has plans to develop urban parks in the district to provide much-needed lung space along with recreational facilities for the city dwellers besides preserving biodiversity.

Collector Prashanth Patil said that they have plans to develop 86 acres that include an urban park in 10 acres, Miyawaki forest in 2 acres and block plantation in 10 acres. The beautification of Rampur lake and its bund is also on the cards.

"With the proposed urban park is close to national highway-163 and expected to draw a large number of people from the city, a plan is on the anvil to develop children's park, walking track, food court etc.

A tourism photo gallery that highlights the historical and laidback destinations of the erstwhile Warangal district will also be set up," the Collector said.

The trio also visited the urban park coming up in 70 acres belonging to the reserved forest at Elkathurthy. CCF Akbar said that 80 per cent of the works were completed. The park includes children's playing area, open gym, walking track, cafeteria etc, he said.

He expressed confidence that the park would draw huge number of visitors.Greater Warangal Municipal Commissioner N Ravi Kiran, KUDA Project Officer E Ajith Reddy, RDO K Venka Reddy and DFO Ramalingam were among others present.
