Khammam: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leaders have been conducting the party membership drive intensively in erstwhile Khammam district. The drive is intended to strengthen the party at the grass roots level. all villages.

The party leaders have been focussing their attention in enrolling trible people into the party. The party has targeted to enrol 50,000 people in each constituency. Initially the drive had attracted the attention of people in tribal areas.

But the killing of TRS leader N Srinivas in Charla mandal by Maoists seems to have scared the people. The party leaders too seem to be scared to visit villages in agency area.

It was the first that the TRS leader was targeted by the Maoists since its inception. It may be recalled that the Maoists had kidnapped the party leaders in Charla mandal in 2014, but they were released two days after their abduction.

As a sequel to the incident, the membership drive in the agency areas has slowed down.

The Maoists had released a letter, criticising the government. The membership drive has been affected mainly in Bhadrachalm agency, Manuguru, and Yellandu.

Meanwhile, the police also warned the party leaders not to venture into villages without informing the former. The party leaders in the agency areas are living in the shadow of fear.
