Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao accepted the Tamil Nadu government's request to supply in principle drinking water to the State in consultation with Andhra Pradesh government.

The CM called on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on phone and mentioned the Tamil Nadu request for drinking water supply.

A delegation from Tamil Nadu, including Ministers SP Velumani and D Jayakumar and Advisor Dr M Sheelapriya called on KCR here on Thursday.

In response to a request from the delegation, Chief Minister KCR suggested to send a formal request proposal from Tamil Nadu CM to him and also to the AP CM.

He further suggested that soon after receiving the proposal, there should be a meeting between the three States at officers' and experts' level to prepare a report.

Based on the outcome of the discussions, the governments will take a final decision to supply drinking water to Tamil Nadu.

While interacting with the delegation, the Chief Minister said that the neighboring States should be benevolent for the drinking water needs of any State.

He said that he raised the issue of drinking water problem of Tamil Nadu and also other issues of the whole country in NITI Ayog meetings several times.

Reminding that the TRS MPs raised the issue of Tamil Nadu drinking water a couple of times in Lok Sabha, KCR said that in fact the whole country should feel ashamed for the suffering of Tamil Nadu in drinking waterfront.

He further said out of the 70,000 TMCs of water available in India, still there would be a surplus of 30,000 TMCs after meeting the irrigation needs of the entire country.

Out of this, just 10,000 TMCs of water is enough to properly put to use for drinking water purposes in the country.
