Telangana: Finance minister Harish Rao on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for a check dam on the Manjeera river here at Sardhana village of Haveli Ghanpur mandal of Medak district.
The check dam which will be constructed at a cost of Rs 12.50 crore will benefit for five villages and irrigate a total ayacut of two lakh acres.
Speaking to media, Harish Rao said that not a single check dam was sanctioned in united Andhra Pradesh. However, after emerging to power, the TRS government has granted 15 check dams on Manjeera river. The 15 check dams will be constructed from Fasalwadi village to Sardhana which are aimed to irrigate 25,000 acres.
"The check dams are being built with Rs 1,200 crore funds of NABARD. After the water reaches Konda Pochamma Sagar, it will be moved to Bollaram Mattadi from then to Sardhana check dam, Kuchana check dam," Harish Rao said.
