Telangana Government to launch intensive sanitation drive in villages
A week long sanitation drive would be taken up in the villages from June 1 in view of monsoon season which would begin from the second week of June
Hyderabad: A week long sanitation drive would be taken up in the villages from June 1 in view of monsoon season which would begin from the second week of June.
The objective of the sanitation drive is to keep the villages clean so that seasonal diseases do not spread. The drive assumes significance in view of the coronavirus spread.
The monsoon would enter the country in first week of June and spread to Telangana in the second week of the month.
During the monsoon season, outbreak of dengue, chikungunya, malaria, cholera, typhoid, viral fever, diarrhea and common cold and flu are likely to take place due to the stagnation of water and dirt in the streets.
Garbage in the streets would mix with rain water and lead to spread of diseases. Water-logging in drains would also lead to mosquito breeding which would cause several diseases.
Already the State is in the grip of the coronavirus and the monsoon season may aggravate the situation. Coronavirus infection along with other diseases would become fatal for the people.
So far most of the villages in the State are Covid-free and the life is coming back on the track for days. Health experts are apprehensive that the virus may spread on a large scale during the monsoon season if sanitation is not maintained.
Taking this situation into consideration the Panchayat Raj department has decided to take up sanitation drive in the villages to keep them free of coronavirus and other seasonal diseases.
The department has issued a schedule of the programmes to be taken up during the week-long sanitation drive. Before the drive, the panchayats have been told to identify and clean the water stagnation in their respective areas.
It has been instructed to observe dry day on Friday and to remove all the stagnated water in the houses. Sweeping of the streets, cleaning of drains, clearing water logging, spray of chemicals and awareness activities would be taken up during the weeklong sanitation drive.
District Collectors are holding video conferences with the concerned officials and instructing them to make arrangements for the sanitation drive.
The chemicals which are required to control the spread of virus would be delivered to the villages in a day or two. The sarpanches and panchayat secretaries have been told to supervise the drive.
