Telangana: Cement companies agree to cut prices

Hyderabad: Agreeing to be part of government's initiative to revive the construction sector along with several other sectors that provide large-scale employment opportunities, the representatives of the cement industry responded positively to government's request to cut down the price for bulk supply for projects like two-bedroom houses, etc. The representatives said they will consult other members before taking a final call on the government's proposal to cut down price of cement.

Minister of Municipal Administration KT Rama Rao and Prashanth Reddy held a high-level meeting with the heads of cement industry and asked them to supply a bag for Rs 230 so that the real estate sector could revive faster.

The government said cement companies have been providing cement at this rate since 2016 and wanted that the same price be maintained for next three years.

The minister said that it was the construction industry that has been offering major employment opportunities during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. If this industry gets affected, it would leave an impact on various other sectors, including cement industries, he added.

The representatives of the cement companies responded positively and said they would revise the prices after holding an internal meeting with the heads of the cement companies.

The Ministers agreed to set up a training center in affiliation with the National Academy of Construction at Huzurnagar. This would create skilled manpower by training the local youth of Huzurnagar, an area that has a large number of cement industries. The representatives of the Cement Companies said that they will provide complete support to the training center in the coming days. Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar and Mayor Bonthu Rammohan participated in the meeting.
