State Election Commission embarks on a massive exercise to conduct elections to 539 ZPTCs and 5,817 MPTCs

Hyderabad: The State Election Commission has pegged the coast of the forthcoming elections to Zilla Parishad and Mandal Parishad Territorial constituencies at around Rs 150 crore.

The polls, which will be held in three phases, will necessitate the State Election Commission (SEC) to deploy a large number of poll staff, security personnel and material.

The election process, which began on April 22, will come to an end by May 27. According to the officials of the State Election Commission, polls would be held for 539 ZPTCs and 5,817 MPTCs in 32 districts.

The SEC has appointed 2,879 Returning Officers. While one RO is appointed for each ZPTC, each RO is required to supervise polls for three MPTCs.

Apart from this, the SEC needs to deploy 1.47 lakh more officials to hold the polls. The SEC has deployed 54,000 security personnel to ensure free and fair elections.

On each polling day about one lakh staff would conduct the process.

The SEC is using about 1.18 lakh ballot boxes, 75,000 big size, 21,000 medium and 21,000 small size.

About 20,720 reams of paper is required to print the ballot papers. Out of this about 10,349 reams of pink colour paper and 10,371 reams of white paper would be used. The elections to ZPTC and MPTC posts would be held through the ballot papers.

As many as 1.60 lakh paper seals, same number of paper tags, 42,000 phials of indelible ink, 61.85 lakh forms and 22 lakh covers are required to hold the polls.

The SEC has printed about 11,000 booklets for the benefit of the ROs and the AROs. It has also printed about one lakh copies of handbook for the benefit of presiding officers, and 33,000 handbooks for the benefit of the contesting candidates.
