Sarpanches decry cheque power to deputies, stage protest in Mahbubnagar

Mahbubnagar: The Sarpanch Association members in Jadcherla mandal staged a protest in the mandal headquarters on Thursday demanding the government to withdraw its proposal of giving dual cheque powers to both Sarpanches and deputy Sarpanches.

Recently as the State government had advocated giving cheque powers to both Sarpanches and Deputy Sarpanches, the Sarpanch Association members in Jadcherla mandal objected to the government's new proposal and demanded the government to withdraw it as it would come in the way of development.

The Sarpanch Association members said that this kind of dual cheque power strategy would ruin the development process in gram panchayats. "Sarpanch must be given cheque power as it was done earlier. The State government's new proposal of giving dual cheque powers to both Sarpanch and deputy Sarpanch will serve no purpose and further it will come in the way of development as it will delay the release of funds and pace of works," said the agitating Sarpanch Association members.
