Sajjanar warns food traders against adulteration

The Hyderabad City Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar has issued a stern warning that strict legal action will be taken against those compromising public health for personal profit through food adulteration. He emphasised that food adulteration is not merely a business malpractice but a direct assault on society. On Thursday, the Commissioner attended an awareness seminar for Food Business Operators at the Old Police Commissionerate Office in Basheerbagh. The event, organised by H-FAST, saw participation from approximately 200 business representatives from sectors including meat, milk, bakery products, ginger-garlic paste, and tea powder. On the occasion, Sajjanar revealed that within the last month alone, 92 cases have been registered across the city. Authorities have seized approximately 62 tonnes of adulterated food items and arrested 98 individuals involved in these illegal activities.
He urged traders to act as responsible citizens and never compromise on the quality of food products. He reminded the gathering that the State Government is deeply committed to achieving an Adulteration-Free Telangana. Every trader has a responsibility to protect the global reputation of Hyderabad, the Commissioner stated. He mandated that every Food Business Operator must possess a valid FSSAI licence and encouraged the public and traders to immediately report any information regarding adulteration to the police. The Commissioner assured that the Police Department and the Government would provide full support to those conducting business with integrity. He expressed his vision for everyone to become partners in building a Healthy Hyderabad. During the interaction, business representatives brought certain field-level challenges to the attention of the Commissioner, which he promised to resolve. Task Force DCP Gaikwad Vaibhav Raghunath, Additional DCP A Srinivasa Rao, and other senior officials were present as traders pledged their full cooperation.
