Warangal: Right to Information empowers every citizen to seek any information from the government and get certified photocopies thereof, School of Distance Learning and Continuing Education (SDLCE) Director Prof Guguloth Veeranna said on Saturday.

He was addressing an awareness programme on RTI Act-2005 organised by the Council for Citizens Rights (CCR), a NGO, at Kakatiya University (KU). He said that the Act is was legislated to promote transparency and accountability in the working of every public authority.

Terming the Act as a powerful tool, Prof Veeranna said that there was an imperative need for the citizens, the government and the civil societies to address several constraining factors to ensure effective and equitable implementation of the Act.

Speaking on the occasion, guest Dr Rajitha of Telangana State Police Academy dwelt at length about how to make request for information, whom to approach, rules, sections, appeals, other components and success stories of the Right to Information act. The dignitaries felicitated CCR Jagtial representative Venugopal, on the occasion.

The CCR president Manchikatla Anil Kumar, ACP Sadanandam Goud, D Srikanth Yadav of Journalism Department, KU, Dr Sammaiah, CCR Warangal representatives D Rambabu, B Devender, R Rambabu, Praveen, Manohar, Hari and Somesh were among others present.
