Ramappa has a slew of projects lined up
Notwithstanding the outcome of the Ramappa Temple, the abode of Ramalingeshwara Swamy located at Palampet village under Venkatapur mandal, which is vying for UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites tag, the 800-year-old architectural marvel of the Kakatiya era is set for a huge development.
Ramappa (Mulugu): Notwithstanding the outcome of the Ramappa Temple, the abode of Ramalingeshwara Swamy located at Palampet village under Venkatapur mandal, which is vying for UNESCO's World Heritage Sites tag, the 800-year-old architectural marvel of the Kakatiya era is set for a huge development. If all goes according to the plan of MLC Pochampally Srinivas Reddy who is popularly known as Varikole Srinivas Reddy, Palampet would be transformed into a spiritual, cultural and heritage centre.
A College of Architecture and Sculpture, auditorium, Shilpa Kala Vedika in 10 acres and a gigantic Shiv Lingam in the island located in Ramappa lake are some of the highly alluring components lined up to enhance the beauty and significance of the Ramappa temple in the near future. The Rs 5 crore auditorium would be constructed in such a way that it would reflect the architecture and sculptural elegance of the Ramappa temple.
Speaking to The Hans India, Pochampally Srinivas Reddy said, "a plan is on the anvil to establish a College of Architecture and Sculpture in a bid to revive the art form which is on the wane. The two arches – one on the main road and the other one at the entrance of Ramappa temple – will also be constructed." The funding for the proposed projects will be procured under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), he said.
Against this backdrop, Srinivas Reddy who discussed at length with the Mulugu District Collector C Narayana Reddy about Ramappa development works felt the necessity of constituting a committee for the purpose. He was also keen to turn Mulugu as plastic free district, considering the umpteen number of temples, including Asia's largest tribal fair - Sammakka Saralamma jatara - and laidback destinations in the region.
This development comes at a time when the Ramappa temple is on the cusp of getting the tag of World Heritage Sites from the UNESCO. According to Archaeological experts, Ramappa has every chance to gets its name inscribed on UNESCO's World heritage Sites list. It may be mentioned here that Ramappa is the only nomination from the country.
It may be mentioned here that a delegation advocating for the UNESCO tag for Ramappa is attending a meeting convened by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) in Paris on November 22.
