Mulugu: A nine-month pregnant tribal woman who was stranded on a road unable to cross an overflowing stream was rescued by the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) officials on Sunday.

With Penkavagu and Jinnavagu streams in Alubaka panchayat area under Venkatapuram mandal in Mulugu district were overflowing, Kanta who was suffering labour pain had to wait for hours to cross the streams to reach a hospital.

Even though the villagers sought for the help of 108 ambulance service, the team expressed its inability to cross the stream. ICDS officer Rama Devi, who came to know the incident, arranged a country boat to ferry the pregnant woman. Kanta was admitted to government hospital in Venkatapuram and later shifted to Mulugu Area Hospital, it is learnt.

Meanwhile, Godavari river is receiving abundant inflows following incessant rains in upstream Maharashtra. The officials issued second warning on Sunday with the water level reaching to 9.94 metres at Ramannagudem Pushkar Ghat under Eturnagaram mandal. Several local streams are also in spate hampering transportation.
