Power utilities charged up for electric vehicle project
Chairman and Managing Director of Telangana Transco and Genco D Prabhakar Rao on Thursday said that power utilities of the State are ready to face any challenge including supplying power to charging stations of electric vehicles.
Hyderabad: Chairman and Managing Director of Telangana Transco and Genco D Prabhakar Rao on Thursday said that power utilities of the State are ready to face any challenge including supplying power to charging stations of electric vehicles.
Speaking at the Independence Day celebrations, he said that the power utilities of the State have met a highest peak demand of 10,818 MW on September 11, 2018 with a record consumption of 233 MU and they are fully geared-up to meet the load up to 12,000 MW during this Khrif season.
At the time of formation of the State, the peak demand met was only 6,660 MW. For the First time in the history 24 hours power is being supplied to 24.02 lakh agriculture pump sets from January 1, 2018 onwards in Telangana.
He said that contracted capacity has increased from 7,778 MW as on June 2, 2014 to 16,204 MW (more than the doubled capacity) as on August 1, 2019. He said that recently, the CEA (Central Electricity Authority) appreciated the Telangana State Load Dispatch Center for excellent balance of supply-demand scenario in the State and taking lead role in scrupulous implementation of guidelines issued from CEA.
Prabhakar Rao said that in a major development, TS GENCO has put in operation the Reversible Pumping Facility at Nagarjuna Sagar and Srisailam Hydel stations. The flexibility of Reverse Pumping System at these Hydel stations is very much beneficial for grid management and has also resulted in substantial savings. TS GENCO got another feather in the cap of achievements by recording the Plant Load Factor (PLF) of 80.13 per cent during 2018-19.
Currently, electric vehicle industry is fast picking up and set an ambitious target of having 100 per cent electric vehicles for public transport and 40 per cent electric vehicles for personal mobility by 2030.
In an effort to enhance the energy security and to mitigate the adverse environmental impacts from road transport vehicles, TS power utilities are fully geared up to supply the required bulk power to the upcoming charging agencies as well as retail consumers.
