Hyderabad: While the exit polls predicted that the ruling TRS will emerge victorious, voting ended peacefully in the byelection to the Huzurnagar Assembly Constituency on Monday with more than 80 per cent of the voters exercising their franchise.

In all, 28 candidates were in the fray. Counting of votes will be held on October 24 in Suryapet.

Tentative voter turnout in the bypoll has been reported at 84.15 per cent. The final figure will emerge after the compilation of the data furnished by the polling officer on Monday night.

According Election Commission officials, the total turnout may cross 86.38 per cent registered in 2018 elections. In 2014, a total number of 81.18 per cent of voters cast their votes.

The byelection was necessitated after the incumbent MLA and TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy quit the legislator post soon after he was elected MP from Nalgonda.

Congress fielded Uttam's wife N Padmavati Reddy against TRS candidate S Saidi Reddy in the bypoll.
