Karimnagar: Old age should not be considered as a curse and it is not a sin. Rather aged people must be treated like gods, said MLC Naradasu Laxman Rao here on Tuesday.
The International Senior Citizens Day celebrations were organised under the auspices of Women, Children, Disabled and Senior Citizens department here at the Collectorate auditorium in Karimnagar.
Attending as a chief guest to the celebrations, the MLC said that it is the responsibility of children to look after their parents who are aged and should not treat them as untouchables. In their entire life, the parents strive hard for building up the bright future of their children. So, when they grow old, their children must take their responsibility, he advised.
The MLC advised the old aged people to participate actively in the social activities, practice yoga and keep their soul always young. They must share their experiences and knowledge to others, he suggested.
He assured the aged people that he would take the issue of giving subsidy to the aged people who travel in RTC buses.Later, he felicitated some of the age persons who actively participated in the social activities.
Joint Collector Shyam Prasad Lal, SUDA chairman GV Rama Krishna Rao, District Welfare Officer Ch Sharada, Revenue Divisional Officer N Anand Kumar, Senior Citizens Association members S Janardhan Rao, B Sattaiah, V Venkatesham, M Saraswathi, M Anjaiah, Keshava Reddy, Nasimudding, Hussain, Shankaraiah and Laxmipathi and others were present on the occasion.
