Gadwal: The administration took up a massive cleanse up programme in the district to get rid of the plastic litter and collected more than 2,240 quintals of plastic waste packed in 1,003 bags from across all the 12 mandals of the district.

Earlier, the District Collector K Shashank, as part of the 30-day action plan, had directed the authorities to take action against the menace of plastic material at village, mandal and municipality levels across the district and directed all the mandal level authorities to take up the collection of plastic waste and make the district free of plastic menace.

"We have received a great response from the villages; almost all the Grampanchayats in the district have taken part with commitment and dedication and could collect 1,003 bags of plastic waste weighing 2,240 quintals.

Apart from this, we have also collected 454 bags of plastic bottles and 7,597 bags of waste glass bottles. We have decided not to dump this waste anywhere and are talking to plastic recycling agencies to send the collected plastic waste for recycling," said the Collector.

Very soon majority villages in Gadwal are likely to become plastic free and the district administration is taking steps to announce them plastic free villages, he said. In the coming days, steps will be further taken to ensure complete ban on plastics and soon Gadwal district on the whole is going to get rid of plastics soon, he added.
