Telangana High Court directs govt to stop asking for Aadhaar & TPIN for registration of non-agricultural properties

Hyderabad: The new registration system launched for non-agricultural properties landed in a state of utter confusion in Telangana. The State government on Friday stopped the services of slot booking after the High Court directed the State to stop asking for Aadhaar and TPIN (Telangana Property Identification Number) for the registration of properties. Under the new registration process brought into force last week, the applicants were asked to furnish the personal details. The court found the government move as a violation of the fundamental right to protect their applicant's privacy.

The officials of state Registration department maintained that the installed software is not supporting to book a slot and registration of properties for the non-Aadhaar and non-TPIN holders.

The available slot booking services on the official Registration and Stamps department website were completely put on hold. The technical teams have taken up a modification of the installed software in tune with the directions of the High Court.

Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar was entrusted with the responsibility of streamlining the new registration process in tune with the court instructions. The slots booked earlier were only disposed off and a total of nine documents have been registered till the evening, officials said. However, the non-registration services like issuing a statement of encumbrances, e- stamps and registration of marriages were made available without any interruption in the registration offices.

The realtors too were opposing the new system of registration and said that their financial woes would intensify under the new systems which requires huge personal data to proceed for property registrations. The property registrations were stopped on September 8 in a bid to offer the services through the newly launched Dharani portal but failed due to technical and legal complications, the realtors said that the old registration system was the best one to address all the hurdles faced in the Dharni portal.
