Nizamabad: District Collector M Rammohan Rao said law and order has to be maintained perfectly to ensure the development of welfare schemes. On Police Commemoration Day, he paid tributes to police martyrs at Nizamabad Police Parade Grounds on Monday morning.

He said that the people are living peacefully in the society because of the police, who do their duty perfectly by making several sacrifices. About 292 policemen across the country were remembered on the day, who lost their lives while on duty this year.

In Nizamabad, 19 policemen were killed since 1987. More than 35,000 police personnel were died in the country since the war with China.

Nizamabad in-charge Police Commissioner Swetha Reddy said the sacrifices of police martyrs were never a waste. The police will work for the welfare of the people as two eyes of righteousness and honesty, she added.

Later, essay writing, elocution and painting competitions were organised for students and prizes were given to the winners.

Additional Commissioner of Police Sridhar Reddy, AR DCP N Bhaskar, traffic CI G Srinivas, Prabhakar and police officers Srinu, Madhusudhan and Ram Niranjan, Peddaiah and others also participated.
