Narayanpet: With an aim to promote Swachh Bharat programme in the newly-carved out Narayanpet district, District Collector S Venkat Rao stressed that there is a need to speed up the construction of Individual Household Latrines in the district so as to make the district a better place for the people to live in.
"In Narayanpet, so far, we have constructed more than 68,700 IHHLs and many more has to be constructed. We are planning to make the district ODF very soon and accordingly directed the officials to ensure the targeted IHHLs are completed as early as possible," said Venkat Rao.
While taking part in a review meeting on Swachh Bharat and its implementation in Narayanpet district, the Collector expressed his concern over the slow pace of IHHL construction works. He directed the concerned Assistant Programme Officers (APOs) and Technical Assistants to chalk out a plan so that the construction of IHHLs is speeded up and help the district reach the set target in a time bound manner.
The Collector felt that there was a need to create more awareness among the public about the importance of cleanliness and hygiene. "we have asked the concerned officials to conduct reviews at the village and mandal levels and by taking into confidence the people's representatives, we can bring a drastic change in the mindset of people and must strive to ensure people come forward to construct the IHHLs," said the Collector.
To ensure that the construction of IHHLs is taken up at a brisk pace, the Collector has appointed a special officer to each village. They are given the responsibility to visit each village and understand the problems and shortcomings and accordingly take necessary action to ensure that the villagers can be encouraged and mobilised to take part in the Swachh Bharat programme.
Apart from construction of IHHLs, the Collector also directed the officials to ensure that each and every village gets sufficient drinking water under Mission Bhagiratha and Mission Kakatiya programmes.
The Collector has also directed the Horticulture department officials to take up awareness programmes for farmers in the district so that they can be motivated to take up horticulture plantations like fruits, vegetables, flowers, Neem tree, Red sanders plantations. Accordingly, the Collector has also directed the officials concerned to ensure the nurseries are developed so that adequate plants are grown for the Haritha Haram plantation programme in the coming days.
