Nalgonda: The doctors of the Indian Medical Association, Neelagiri branch took out a rally in Nalgonda on Thursday to create awareness among people about diabetes and its effects on the health, on the occasion of World Diabetes Day.
IMA Neelagiri president Dr. Pulla Rao informed that in view of scant awareness among people, the IMA took out a rally to mark the World Diabetes Day and conducted tests at Nagarjuna Government College grounds to educate the morning walkers and others about diabetes and its effects on the overall health of a person.
Most of the people suffer without diagnosis and land in hospitals with severe complications, Pulla Rao said.
IMA Neelagiri secretary doctor PVN Murthy, in his address, advised the people to get regular blood glucose tests done if any of their family members were suffering from diabetes and also those with obesity and sedentary life.
The students of Sai Nursing College and Sandeep School led by IMA doctors took out a rally in the town. After the rally, the IMA doctors conducted free blood glucose tests for nearly 200 people at NG College grounds and surprisingly, five new cases were detected and were advised for further tests.
The people suffering from diabetes were advised to have a balanced diet, avoiding smoking and consumption of alcohol, go for regular physical exercise and get good sleep along with regular treatment to lead a healthy life.
Doctors Suresh, Mathru, Srinivas, Praveen, Anitha Rani, Y Sudhakar and members of Lions Club and Walkers Association participated in the rally.
