Hyderabad: Will TDP play the minority card to resurrect the party's political prospects in Telangana?
It appears that the party is mulling over the prospects and possibility of fielding candidates from the minority community proportion to their population in the ensuing municipal elections.
The issue was discussed at a surprise meeting held between the party national president N Chandrababu Naidu and the TPCC leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy. The meeting also raised many eyebrows and speculations are that Janardhan Reddy may stage a homecoming. Naidu was here for the weekend.
Reddy has been staying away from active politics ever since he was defeated in 2018 Assembly elections. He, apart from being a minster in Naidu's Cabinet, was considered to be a close aide of the TDP chief during Naidu's heydays in the undivided Andhra Pradesh. He was also the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee. Reddy quit TDP when Telangana movement was at its peak and floated his own political outfit. However, as his party drew blank he shifted to BJP. As he did not get the kind of importance he had expected in the saffron party, the veteran Telangana leader opted out and joined the Congress party.
Sources said that Reddy and Naidu exchanged their views on the political developments that have taken place after the Lok Sabha elections in two Telugu States of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Reddy is learnt to have expressed his desire to play active political role in Telangana.
The winning prospects of the Congress in the municipal elections is also said to have figured during the meeting. Earlier, TDP leaders from Telangana K Dayakar Reddy, Arvind Kumar Goud and minority leader Tajuddin also met Naidu.
