Nalgonda:Lockdown increases water problems in Ramulabanda village

Nalgonda: Water problem is bothering the villagers of Ramulabanda of Nalgonda district during the lockdown. According to village sarpanch Jayamma, the village has 400 houses with 1,200 population. The entire village has rocky land and the success rate of bores is very less forcing the entire village to depend on Krishna water supply through pipes. The village has a OHSR tank of 60 KL and has to be filled twice a day to cater the 400 liters per head water needs of the village.

The water problem arose after about 300 labor families, who works at construction sites in Hyderabad, returned to their native village for Ugadi festival and got stuck here due to the sudden lockdown from March 22. The increase in population from 1,200 to 1,500 has raised the water demand and led to water problems in the village. To solve the water woes permanently, local MLA Kancharla Bhupalreddy had sanctioned another OHSR with a capacity 40,000 liters but the tank construction was delayed as gram panchayat council took two months' time to select land for the construction of tank, followed by labor issues and lockdown.

Finally, after overcoming all hiccups, the contactor is about to finish the construction within two days and pipeline works also are in the final stage. Water could be provided within 10 days. Speaking to The Hans India, RWS Executive Engineer Mohan Reddy admitted the water problems of Ramulabanda village and informed about the progress of Mission Bhagiratha tank and pipeline works to address the issue once for all. He warned lineman Yadaiah to take care of water supply to all villages that were allotted to him.

AE Sulakshana condemned the allegations of a few villagers about the non-filling of the existing 60 KL tank twice a day and informed that water problem in Ramulabanda village was raised suddenly due to the migrant workers, who got stuck due to the lockdown for the last 50 days. She stated that soon after finding the problem, they started filling the tank twice a day without fail.

The villagers appreciated the government's measures in controlling the spread of coronavirus and demanded the government to shutdown liquor shops for three months in the process of controlling corona.
