Hyderabad: TRS working president KT Rama Rao on Wednesday alleged that the BJP-led NDA government was responsible for delay in taking up development activities in Secunderabad Cantonment.

He said the State government was unable to take up development activities in Secunderabad Cantonment because of delay in granting permissions. Addressing the party leaders from cantonment area here at Telangana Bhavan, KTR said the State government had proposed many development activities for Secunderabad Cantonment area, but there was delay in taking up works because of conditions imposed by the Defence Ministry and the Board.

There is no response from the Centre or from the Defence Ministry for the allotment of lands for the skyways even after many representations by the State Ministers, MPs and other leaders. The traffic woes of the people residing in Secunderabad can be solved if the Centre provided permission for the skyways.

The Cantonment Board members brought to the notice of the TRS working president that because of the delay by the Board authorities, the problems of the cantonment board were not getting solved.

The members also said that the development activities taken up by the TRS government during the last five years would fetch more votes for the TRS in the coming elections, the members said. The members said that there was a proposal for making the Defence Hospital in Cantonment a 100- bed hospital, but it was not getting permission for expansion.

KTR said that he would appeal to Health Minister Eatala Rajender to once again write to the Centre to handover the Defence Hospital to the State government so that the poor get benefitted with expansion.

Apart from this, the Municipal Administration Department had also prepared plans with Rs 2.5 crore for preventing drainage water flowing into Ramanna Kunta. KTR said he would take this to the notice of the government for getting permissions in a day or two.

Cantonment MLA T Sayanna said the party was strong in the area and if the elections were held on party basis, the TRS would win with a huge margin. He urged KTR to write a letter to the Defence authorities requesting them to conduct elections on party basis. However, he said that the panel supported by TRS would win the elections even if the elections were not held up on party basis.
