Kishan Reddy confident of winning from Sec'bad
BJP candidate from Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency G Kishan Reddy is banking on what he calls the support Prime Minister Narendra Modi is enjoying among the people to win. He says the people have come to a conclusion that there is no alternative to Modi at the national level
How is your campaign progressing?
It picked up steam in the last two days and I see a lot of support coming from people belonging to all walks of life. The pro-Modi slogans are heard during our campaigns.
It shows that people don't see any other leader other than Modi as their next Prime Minister. My constituency is home to people from different languages and regions from across the country.
Hyderabad enjoys a reputation as a cosmopolitan city, and they want someone who can protect and improve that image.
Do you think there will be some magic going to happen as had happened during the State Assembly elections?
TRS received an unprecedented support in the Assembly elections. Congress and BJP could not succeed in exploiting the anti-incumbency against the TRS government in the Assembly elections. Now, the people see that there is no alternative to Modi.
What do you want to accomplish as a member of Parliament?
There cannot be a separate manifesto for the constituency. But there are a lot of issues to be addressed, the state of roads is horrible, water shortage, overflowing drainages, and traffic and pollution problems plaguing the Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency.
If elected, I will have the right to demand that the Centre and State government release funds for development of the constituency.
The TRS chief alleges that Modi's government did not do anything for Telangana?
That is a doublespeak. Many a time the Chief Minister praised Modi on the floor of the State Assembly. KCR said no other government since Independence had ever given a boost to the road projects in the State like the Modi government.
It speaks volumes about the Centre's funding to the State. But, KCR sees the Centre like an ATM to withdraw funds the way he wants. He can accept the Centre the way he had diverted thousands of crores to Gajwel Assembly constituency.
How do you see the Hindutva narrative of the TRS against the BJP? Will it have any effect on the electorate?
Earlier, Majlis was engaged in an anti-Hindu rhetoric and now KCR has adopted the same.
The Congress and some others are propagating that voting for the TRS is voting for the BJP. Against this backdrop, he is trying to project himself as pro-Muslim. But, insulting Hindus for this, using words like "Hindus or Bondus" is not acceptable.
Hindustan is an identity of this country for centuries. It does not mean that others like Muslims and Christians did not exist here or it is not home for others?
Why leaders from the Congress are taking interest in the saffron party?
After Parliament elections, a greater number of workers and leaders from all the parties will be joining the party. Leaders and cadre of the Congress have lost faith in the party after en masse defections of Congress MLAs and MPs to TRS.
You are making allegations of corruption against TRS and Congress. But Congress alleges corruption by the BJP government in the Rafale deal. How do you respond to it?
Congress has failed to show an iota of evidence against the BJP and Modi.
The Congress announced minimum income guarantee scheme with an outlay of about Rs 3 to 4 lakh crore per year after the release of election notification.
But it kept the Rafale deal pending for ten years after rates were agreed, agreements were signed. This shows Congress' commitment to national security and her people.
Tell me, why should people vote for you and your party?
Earlier people voted for TRS and Congress. The TRS has 15 sitting MPs but what have they done in the last five years? Even 16 seats now will not make any difference.
