Mahbubnagar: In a shocking incident, a youngster, who was tonsured in front of the villagers on the orders of the village Sarpanch, tried to end his life by consuming pesticide.
The incident happened at Muchintala village of Chinna Chintakunta mandal in Devarkadra constituency of Mahbubangar district on Friday.
According to sources, Mahesh hatched a plan to sell two bovines belonging to Harshavardhan Reddy, husband of Muchintala village Sarpanch.
He called up Raghavender and sought his help in selling the bovines without informing him about his shady act.
Unaware of Mahesh's plans, Raghavender followed Mahesh to Devarkadra cattle market, where Mahesh sold the two bovines of Harshavardhan Reddy for Rs 35,000.
Upon learning about the deed, an irate Harshavardhan Reddy caught Mahesh and Raghavender and brought them to the gram panchayat office and sought explanation from the duo.
Raghavender, who couldn't comprehend what was happening, realised that he was implicated by Mahesh. Meanwhile, the Sarpanch termed both boys as thieves and ordered for their tonsuring.
Raghavender, who was innocent in the entire episode, felt insulted and consumed the pesticide to end his life.
Noticing that the boy had consumed pesticide, the villagers' immediately shifted him to government hospital, where the condition of the boy is said to be critical.
After learning about the incident, Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police Chinna Chintakunta Parashuram swung into action and registered a case against all those involved and investigating the matter.
Meanwhile, the villagers alleged that the Sarpanch's husband, Harshavardhan Reddy, instead of informing the matter to police had taken the law into his hands and made the Sarpanch deliver the verdict because of which the boy was deeply hurt and resorted to suicide.
