Karimnagar: The District Collectorate will be transformed into a green Collectorate by planting thousands of saplings on its premises, said District Collector K Shashanka. Along with City Mayor Y Sunil Rao, the Collector planted saplings on the premises of the Collectorate here on Monday as part of sixth phase of Haritha Haram programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Collector K Shashanka said large number of people visit the Collectorate on various works daily and there are employees, who discharge duties here. To provide shade and to give a pleasant atmosphere for these people, they decided to plant more saplings on the Collectorate premises, he stated.
The Collector ordered the officials to plant saplings, which are more than one meter length at all vacant places in the Collectorate and its surroundings along with arranging tree guards. 'The officials of municipal corporation are preparing an action plan for planting saplings in a large scale using Miyawaki method like that of Yadadri to increase green cover under corporation limits. The public representatives, people along with the officials of various departments must participate actively in the sixth phase of Haritha Haram and must make it a grand success and transform the district into full of greenery, the Collector appealed.
City Mayor Y Sunil Rao stated along with planting saplings, they will arrange tables and benches for the people to sit, who visit the Collectorate. Steps were also taken to plant saplings using Miyawaki method in merged villages, on the bunds of lakes and tanks, also at important places under the Corporations limits, he informed.
Mayor Sunil Rao said as per the suggestions of the State government, the municipal corporation staff are distributing six saplings to each household and people should plant these saplings and must protect them, he urged.
Municipal Commissioner Valluri Kranthi, EE Raman, AE Mohan Reddy, Kothapally MRO Srinivas and municipal staff were present along with others.
