Hyderabad: Wrong e-challans causing jitters to vehicle owners
There is a demand for better redressal mechanism for resolving traffic issues. Many vehicle owners claim that they are being wrongly penalised for traffic violations due to single digit or an alphabet error in the vehicle registration number
There is a demand for better redressal mechanism for resolving traffic issues. Many vehicle owners claim that they are being wrongly penalised for traffic violations due to single digit or an alphabet error in the vehicle registration number.
Hyderabad: Recently, a resident of Rajendranagar was issued an e-challan for his vehicle No AP09 AK 8924 allegedly for violation he had not committed as his bike was not in use for a year. The mere difference of a digit in a vehicle proved to be erroneous and later turned into an ordeal for the person as the authorities concerned refused to coordinate on the resolution.
Sadly, many such similar cases are being claimed by the vehicle owners in the city. Many vehicles including two-wheelers and four-wheelers have been issued challans for violations, they claim they have not done.
For Sunil Reddy, a resident of Gopalnagar, who was imposed with wrong e-challan, says, "The cops imposed a challan on my vehicle no TS09 EY 2698 for riding without helmet and riding on a wrong side with an attached photo. When I saw the photo, it was a different vehicle with registration number TS09 EY 2693. The issue was resolved after a lot of follow up with the traffic cops, says Sunil.
Similarly, for Ehsan Sultan, a resident of Attapur, was imposed with an e-challan for his vehicle with registration no TS13 EK 4571 for riding without helmet, but the photo attached with the challan had a different bike, "The cops imposed me a challan for riding without helmet but in the photo the number plate is unclear and the bike was different how did the cops figure out that the vehicle is mine," he asks.
When asked Anil Kumar Additional Commissioner, Traffic, Hyderabad, about the issue, he explained, "In some cases, people deliberately remove a digit or alphabet from the number plate or change it to evade traffic violation due to which manual errors occur and wrong challans are imposed."
"Every other day we get around four to five such complaints and around 15 to 20 cases in a month where people claim of wrong challans issued due to improper number plates by others," adds Anil Kumar.
Wrong e-challan, what to do?
If errors have crept in the issue of e-challan, the traffic police come out with redressal mechanism. File a complaint with the traffic police on their e-portal or you can visit the nearest police station and ask them to drop the 'charge
