Hyderabad: Coronavirus may be sending a chill down the spine of people, but student community and children seem to be in seventh heaven as schools have cancelled all events and examinations till March 31.
What is more, in several schools, students are promoted without even appearing for examinations and their happiness knows no bounds. Santosh, a VI student of St Michael's School, Old Alwal, Surya Nagar, received an sms that he was promoted for the academic session 2010-21, based on his performance in the previous exams and that there would be no need to appear for further exams. Most schools have decided to promote students of Grade VI, VII, VII & IX.
While students are a happy lot, teachers have been instructed by school managements to attend school. Aruna K, a teacher of Aurobindo School, says, "Students are a happy lot but we have to attend school and we are also given invigilation duty. The SSC exams start from March 19."
65k to appear for SSC exams
The SSC exams are starting from March 19 and 65,000 students from the city are appearing out of which 5,000 are government schoolchildren. S Madhusudhan says, "More than 50% of the students pay the fee at the last moment. There are 11,000 private schools in the state and over Rs 200 crore is to be collected. The government should conduct an inquiry before issuing notices to schools. No classes were conducted in schools on Monday."
Notices to some schools for functioning despite advisory
• VIP International School (Saidabad, Charminar & Bahadurpura), Spring Field School, Charminar, Shireen Public School, Secunderabad, Kushboo School, Shaikpet, Joshua School, Shaikpet, Sunrise School, Shaikpet, Rosary Convent School, Gunfoundry, All Saints High School, Gunfoundry, Little Flower School, Abids and St Marks Boys Town School, Bahadurpura were issued notices and officials from the Education Department said that further action would be taken for disobeying Government instructions
• "Notices are issued to all of them and enforced closure. Further action is being initiated against them, for disobeying Government instructions," Special Chief Secretary of Education Department Chitra Ramchandran said in a press release today.
Schools were opened only to issue hall-tickets, contends TRSMA
• S Madhusudhan, state general secretary, Telangana Recognized School Managements Association (TRSMA), says, "No schools functioned in the state. The schools were opened for administrative purpose as the students needed to collect their hall-tickets and to sign in their internal assessment mark sheet."
• Schools received the hall-tickets on Friday and Saturday. The students came to collect the same and to sign on the internal assessment mark sheet
