Youngistaan Foundation along with Telangana State Police supplied 500 nutrition packages to families of daily wage and migrant workers living in and around the Nallamala forest at Nagarkurnool
Hyderabad: Youngistaan Foundation along with Telangana State Police supplied 500 nutrition packages to families of daily wage and migrant workers living in and around the Nallamala forest at Nagarkurnool.
The kits were distributed among 200 families from the Chenchu tribe living in Sarlapally, Kudichinthalabaylu village, 40 families from Mallapur, 130 families from Chennaram, 130 families who hailed from Rajasthan, Maharashtra living in Achampet town were provided with a nutrition kit consisting of ten items that included rice, dal, aata, salt, oil, turmeric powder, chilli powder, milk powder, soap and detergent that would last for ten days for a family of four.
People living here work as stone breakers, farmers and those who collect the plant litter from the forest and then distributed by the roadside. Migrant workers, work as ice-cream sellers and balloon vendors.
As lockdown extended, their savings came to an end and sought help from the local police.
Speaking to the locals who shared their experiences and struggles due to the lockdown, Bhairnav, a farmer from Mallapur village said, "Groups came to our area to supply groceries but only gave us rice.
We respect their efforts but how do we survive only with rice? Today, we heartfully thank these bunch of youngsters for coming so far and providing us with all the essentials. Now we can survive till the lockdown ends".
Adding to which Raju, a migrant worker in Achampet said, "I sell ice-creams to people near cinema halls and dhabas. As soon as the lockdown began, I stopped receiving materials from my local distributor which left me with no option to sell.
It is depressing to be jobless and have no money to buy basic essentials that my family requires but now because of you all I will be able to feed my family."
Arun Daniel Yellamaty, founder of the Youngistaan Foundation said, "The drive was conducted along with the help of Telangana State Police who identified vulnerable families living in Nagarkurnool district.
Travelling 160 km is worth to see the help the tribals who are much in need of groceries and support from people who can actually help.
