No chemicals or gases; nearly 100% kill rate for viruses, bacteria
Hyderabad: In a major breakthrough, Reevax Pharma, a city-based company, has come out with two products, UV Rosa ST and UV ROVA BR, that can disinfect an operation theatre and beds in intensive care units (ICU) in hospitals in a matter of minutes – 5-15 minutes to be precise. The products are certified by UK standards CE-LVD and can cover 100 sqft in less than three minutes with highest dosage of 600-700 micro watts per centimetre square.
Simply put, an area can be disinfected and rid of all types of viruses and bacteria by the UV dose. Y Jagan, the CEO of Reevax Pharma, said, "A patient goes to a hospital for treatment and there is every possibility that he may be infected with another virus. While hospitals have standard procedures that they follow in sanitising the place, the UV robots make sure getting rid of viruses and bacteria totally, with a kill rate exceeding 99.99%."
A Nielsen report states 5-10 per cent of hospital patients worldwide acquire a new infection, while in hospital. While robots are in use in more than 30 countries, cost is a concern. In the US, the cost is $1,00,000 a unit.
Mohan Kumar Tayel, a Director of Reevax Pharma, says, "We are yet to zero in on the price but it would be 1/10th of the cost compared to the US." Trials are underway and a tie-up with a reputed hospital in Hyderabad has been forged. Jagan says, "The UV Rosa ST can sterilise an operating theatre in five minutes and the special sensors embedded in the robot sets off an alarm of human movement and stops immediately." It can be used even in restaurants, kitchens and offices. An official of Reevax said one of the Q Mart in the city was recently sterilized.
